The Way I Love You

I wish I had a list of reasons I could tell them – elaborating why I love you. But, I don’t, because I never think of the ‘why’ of it all, they often call me emotional and illogical. And I wish they’d ask me the ‘how’- how I feel when the phone rings your name or when the smallest thing reminds me of you. How unexpectedly I fell for you and now my world is just a brighter place with your perfect smile. How the sand feels when sea kisses its shore. How falling asleep without your voice makes me miserable. How waking up to your voice and waking up to wake you are synonymous. How you have taken every place in my poor little heart. How our differences make me grow. How I have already crossed every ocean for you in my head. How taking care of you has become my favourite. How the cold breeze feels to a hot summer day. How looking at a picture of us gets me motivated and how I look for ‘us’ in every caricature I see. How do I tell them of the feeling when we are together and that when our hearts align, it’s a perfect circle. How the kiss of the protector has never felt this right since my father and how blindly I trust you, it gives me shivers. How I have been wrong, but I’ll do everything to make this one right. The question is always a how and never a why, when it comes to the way I love you… and it will always come without question marks.

When you have a crush so intense, you need to write an Eviction Notice

To,

All the (fictional) Boys I’ve Loved Before

I am extremely sorry to inform you that I surrender, and from now you all are free from the chambers of my heart. The reason for this urgent evacuation is one such boy who has conquered my heart as a whole and my heart no longer has control or vacancy.

I would like to make it clear that this was not intentional and an act of pure charm and sorcery. So, please don’t hold a grudge against him, especially Noah – because I finally ‘know what I want’ and you belong with Allie more than anyone. This boy fills my heart with such *sighs* … I don’t know what to call it, but it has just taken a complete hold over me. When I see him, my heart stands still – skipping a beat is such an understatement because it lasts for so long – I don’t think I can take it but, I can’t stop myself from looking at his perfect smile and things he does with his eyebrows. I know now what you meant by theory of moment of impacts, Leo ! I know now more than ever and you are free to win back Paige.

Its just so hard to keep a straight face when he talks about himself, I just want to rip my heart out and give it to him. He is out there chilling in a hot tub and I get the chills here, while replaying the clip. Maybe this could be the start of something new ? Troy, I know you will understand this. Forgive me for holding you all for so long, especially you Taylor Lautner – I don’t even know when I stopped loving you. All I know is right now this boy with his bejhdbejshdebjsksb is making my heart pounce – and with all that turbulence I cannot support my affection for anyone but him. Damon, Elena chose you and I choose Peter Kavinsky. Till another do us apart.

I have loved you all dearly in your best and worst. You have served my heart well, but now its time to leave. So, please accept my resignation and this eviction notice. Say you’ll remember me standing in a nice dress, staring at the sunset…

(leave the keys under my pillow)

Love,

J

Mezzaluna: History, Gratitude and Love.

Moving to a new city, discovering places to hang out and developing personal favorites – the order seems to co-exist in everyone’s college life. Being a foodie at heart, for a place to be my favorite hang out spot – it must include a good treat for my taste buds. When I moved to Mysore to pursue my Undergraduate degree, ‘Mezzaluna’ became one such personal favorite.

Mezzaluna has two outlets – a Chinese one and a Continental – Indian one. My preferred outlet is the Continental – Indian One. Mezzaluna has been a constant in my life in Mysore – from fulfilling cravings on cheat days to celebration nights, from lonely Wednesdays to take-out Saturdays. Since, me and my friends are really grateful to have a place like this in our boring small town college lives, I decided to do a post completely dedicated to our very own ‘Mezzaluna’.

In Conversation with the Founder/Owner

First things First, here is all you need to know about the History of Mezzaluna. A conversation with the man behind the amazing Mezzaluna Restaurants revealed what makes Mezzaluna so different. Read on!

Tell us about Yourself.

Nanju Ramappa, an LLB graduate. I am a native of Kodagu district of Karnataka. After my graduation, I joined Taj Residency (presently called Taj Vivanta) and worked there for 7 years. The following 15 years were spent working abroad, until 2004 when I decided to open my own restaurant.

Let us start from the beginning, how did it all begin ?

In the year 2008, I began a chinese restaurant with the name ‘Mezzaluna Chinese’. The initial pick-up of the restaurant took about a month, following which the sailing was pretty smooth. By 2009, I decided to open another outlet offering Indian and Continental cuisines.

Opening a Continental restaurant in a city which rejoices Bisibhele bhath… What were your influences?

Since, I have worked in kitchen and service before during my working period, I already had a good knowledge and the right influence. I indulge in both kitchen and dining – which makes me well aware of the customers expectations and hence cater accordingly.

How was the initial response?

Initial response was slow. But, once recognized – people were surprised to learn that a non-authentic chinese looking person could run a chinese restaurant.

What does Mezzaluna mean anyway ?

‘Mezzaluna’ means half-moon in Persian and in Italian it refers to a moon-shaped blade used to chop vegetables.

Tell us more about your journey as a restaurateur.

From the beginning, I never believed in advertisement. My way of functioning is give utmost attention to the customer’s requirement and serve quality food; And eventually, the word of mouth will be a great form of advertisement.

How has Mezzaluna evolved over the years?

We have been seeing a steady growth, we make sure we update our menu every six to nine months – delete items which are not so popular, and add in new dishes.

How do you deal with the criticism?

We take all our criticism in a positive away. We act on the problems fast and make sure they are not repeated.

People often say Continental food is Bland. Do you think you’ve managed to change a few opinions?

Continental food maybe bland. But, we’ve been able to cater it to our customers after enhancing the flavors, according to their expectations.

What are some of the challenges you face as a restaurateur ?

The only constraint we face is shortage of man power , especially in the utility and house-keeping staff.

In a budding city like Mysore, what is your secret to keep customers coming in?

Food Industry always has challenges. Everyday a new outlet opens up, giving the older ones a fair competition. But, what I believe is as long as we maintain the quality and service standards there is nothing to worry about.

What makes Mezzaluna different from its contemporaries?

Good and Attentive Service ! If one has noticed, most places in Mysore lack that. But, in our case we have been able to sustain the quality of service. I always make my presence felt at the restaurant and keep monitoring the work on daily basis.

What are your favorites from the Mezzaluna menu? Give us a 3 course meal suggestion.

Barbecue chicken wings for starters, Steak for main course and hot chocolate fudge for dessert.

Where do you see Mezzaluna 15 years from now?

Steadily growing with blessings and loyalty of our customers.

(as told by Mr. Nanju Ramappa to Ms. Jubie Gupta)

My Personal Take :

Mezzaluna is not the kind of restaurant that would be known for it ambiance, but a place which will invite you back for its delicious food and hospitable service. Time after time, we often observe change in quality and taste of food in other restaurants – but Mezzaluna stands tall in terms of consistency and quality of taste. I would recommend this place for a catch-up dinner with your friends, probably one of the best options in Mysore. You must try the Chicken Lasagna, Honey Chilli Chicken and Lime Soda here.

What Mezzaluna means to People?

“Firstly I was not fond of Pasta or Chicken !! But Mezzaluna made me to crave for Pastas they make and my favourite is chicken cordon bleu !!🤗”

– Chatura Reddy

“Mezzaluna??
Okay here it goes.

I remember, It was mid October 2012 and we were introduced to this awesome place, mezzaluna by a group of Mysorean friends.

The first meal I had there, impressed me so much that I looked forward to get back again and try out another dish. And since then, I didn’t stop going back to this place. This place serves good continental dishes. The quality and quantity, both doesn’t fail to satisfy my taste buds. Also their Indian dishes are upto expectations.

Few of my favourites are: polocatnia, ala Mezzaluna, chicken mexican, Cajun pasta, lamb lasagna. Also how can I forget their barbeque chicken wings??

Butter chicken, chicken tikka masala, chicken and egg rolls and biryani are also good.

The price is reasonable and student friendly 😛

When I need good food and don’t know where to go, I guess Mezzaluna saves my tummy all time 😀

I love Mezzaluna :)”

– Ningombam Linthoi

“One of the best restaurant in Mysore.
Great taste with great service.
Good Number of food options to choose from.
Lime water is a must try for all.
Garlic bread adds a good and different taste to the main course.
Overall its a good place for people who want to have good and new food with friends and family. I will give the restaurant 4 stars out of 5. “

– Mohit Singhal

“I have always been a foodie and since I was new to Mysore, I heard people raving (still are) about Mezzaluna.

From amazing food to friendly staff it was a delight to order something new everytime. It was the whole package, from North Indian to continental, the food never missed it’s mark.

It’s been 4 years now and I’m never bored and always leave the place happy and satisfied. A true lifesaver.”

– Shreyas A.M.

Wings I Quote #50

Thank You for Telling me this, Dear Friend. I love you.

Carved In A Heart

During one of the hardest periods of my life, I realized that people don’t always keep the promises they make. Based on a message written over a heart shaped card, I wrote this poem. I was 21.

We used to be the best.
We used to be everything,
That I ever wanted.
And the time ran so fast
We had just started to sing,
When it started.

The people were just background
You wrote ‘We are soulmates’,
Carved in a heart.
So when it all came to the ground
Did you close your eyes, soulmate?
When I fell apart.

These words aren’t twice as much heavy
As the ones you promised,
Carved in a heart.
I Should have been ready
Cause words are just said
And promises are broken.

‘Give me your word’, I said
‘ I’ll be yours forever, You
Carved in my heart.’
Only your words, I chased
When I was left in two
One for me and one from you.

Takes a man to keep his word,
Not guilt or ego or gifts or fears,
Carved in a heart .
When those ashes blew in my eyes,
I could see clear, even in tears
Should’ve known from the start.

Actions count, only.
Not unkept beautiful words
Carved in a heart.
Sealed in your name, wisely
The scar and the words
Carved on my heart.

With Love,
J

Chinese Restaurants In Mysore

IMG_20160409_220309Chinese is a pretty popular Cuisine in India. Being loved by people irrespective of culture and geography, our restaurants and in-hotel restaurants serve a fair share of “Indian Chinese”, labelling themselves as multicuisine.

In Mysore, Indian Chinese has introduced it’s very own preparation called “Gobi Manchurian”. You must try this on your visit here.

Being a college student here, I have become familiar with quite a number of Pan-Asian Restaurants. Besides Chinese, most of them serve a fair share of Thai. None of these places serve Japanese food, so no tempura or sushi.
Here is my List of Specifically chinese cuisine restaurants in Mysore :

1. CHINESE CORNER

Ambiance: 3/5
Food: 4/5
Recommended: Manchow Soup, Chinese Chopsuey, Jade Chicken

Ambiance is pretty basic. The place is air conditioned and service is a little slow. The Food quality is pretty good and the quantity is ample. Weighing Location, Ambiance and Food together, Its the most recommended place on this list.

Click here for their Complete Menu.

2. MOMO HOUSE

Ambiance: 1/5
Food: 3/5
Recommended: Spicy Momos in Shezwan Sauce, Tao Special Noodles

The location is kind of tricky and the ambience is not that great either. The place is rather small and not air conditioned. Despite all this, this place is 2nd on my list because of the noodles they serve here. The noodles are not oily, not overcooked and just one of its kind. Also the Momos here, I find the best in the city. I have heard about their honey Noodle dessert too.

3. HAKKA NOODLES

Ambiance: 2/5
Food: 3/5
Recommended: Tshing Hai Chicken, Stuffed Mushroom stir fry

Click here for their Complete Menu.

4. NANKING

Ambiance: 2/5
Food: 3/5
Recommended: Spring Rolls, Burnt Garlic Fried Rice

Click here for their Complete Menu

5. MEZZALUNA CHINESE

Ambiance: 3/5
Food: 1/5

Not to be confused with the Indian & Continental Restaurant by the Same name.
Personally, I had a bad experience here and decided never to go back again.

An April That Was.

Hey There Readers!
How have you been?  Hope You guys are doing well 😊
The Indian Summer is getting the best of me. Despite the heat and sun, I am happy to have met again the true love of my life – Mangoes 💗 I just can’t get enough of them. After having the first Mango of this year, I closed my eyes with the first bite and in that moment I knew it was Love. That moment inspired me to draw this illustration below. (too much drama?! I know, sorry)

image

April has been a crazy month this year. From going Social on Facebook to discovering the Bangalore Food Fete, its been a mixed bag. Now, it’s easy to share posts from my blog between friends and beyond – Thanks to Facebook!

Another Amazing highlight is the Bangalore Food Fete Season 2 (17th April, 2016),  I loved every bit of the experience. The Food, the people, the music, the vibe… Everything was great. I tried a lot of new dishes in the fete like – Churros,  Chicken Semiya, Tornado Fries, Flavoured Ice Tea, Cheesecake Tub etc. Also, I discovered the Most wonderful Brown Sugar Cookies. I loved them so much I carried a few back home ( and, ate them a-bite-a-day – scared that they would get over).

For My Bangalorean Readers, Here are My Favourites from the Fete:

Teabox – Orange Sorbet Iced Tea
Social Offline – Keema Pao
Khan Saheb – Mutton Seekh Kebab
Kick Out The Jams – Keema at me! Burger
Gobble Up –  Chocolate Filled Churros
Whisske,  by Nigel Ivor Pinto – Brown Sugar Cookies

Coming back to Mysore, I discovered this really humble couple with a passion of Baking the most wonderful Cupcakes in town. One of my friends stumbled upon their cupcake exhibition invite On Facebook and the next thing we know is we are making plans to be there. They call themselves ‘Fairy’s Touch‘. There’s so much more to them that I would do a post on their Journey soon. So, Stay Tuned!

10 Ways to Fall In Love With Yourself

The Only New Year’s Resolution You Need is to Fall in Love with Yourself.

Let me clear the air before I go ahead, this is Not a Just-For-Singles Post. Its For everyone.

There’s a reason why Justin Timberlake wrote the love Song – “Mirrors“.
And, there’s a reason why it won so many awards. Besides being a love tale set in reflections and promises, it states a quite obvious fact that- You truly love a person, when you see yourself in them; for that you must love the person you see in the mirror in the first place.

Today, I am here to state some super obvious facts which you might have stopped paying attention to. Life can get ruthless and mean, its a judgmental world. But, I am here to remind you that ‘You are the Most Important Person in your life‘.  So, love what’s important, you can take care of other stuff later.

10 Ways To Fall In Love With Yourself

fall in love with yourself

1. Love Your Mistakes

Your Mistakes make you the person you are. Remind yourself of the mistakes and before negative thoughts take over you, turn right to the fact that you won’t make them anymore. Realize the fact that how important it was to make those mistakes and learn so much from them, besides the fact you don’t have to worry about them happening again. Mistakes shape your Character in ways, nothing else can.

2. Give In to One Of Your Fears

Scared of the Dark ? Spend sometime in your room with lights out. Scared of Your Crush ? Just make a conversation. This will make you believe in yourself more than ever, and when you believe in yourself- you are infallible.

3. Love Your Body

Curves, Love handles, bones, skin, hair… every inch.

4. Make Time For Yourself

Pamper the God/Goddess within you. Do the things you like and skip the things you don’t.

5. Find Your Happy Place

Superwoman calls it “Unicorn Island”, you can call it anything you wish. Everything ideal and everything that makes you Smile.

6. Count Smallest of your Achievements

Grabbing the last ticket at the Theater or tossing the garbage right inside the bin, what was your Least Greatest Achievement ? For me it was plugging my charger with lights out.

7. Picture Yourself 20 years from now

Think Of Where you see Yourself in 20 years from Now and Pen it Down. Write down all you want to have in your future life, mention what qualities will bubble in your future-self. E.g. – I see myself living bungalow with a cute little Yorkie. I am Kind, patient and a fit person. I exercise regularly and drink green tea.

You will need this picture for the choices you make now.

8. Write A Love Letter to Yourself

Tell the most important person – how beautiful their hair looks after blow dry, what an amazing bathroom singer they are and everything that you love about yourself. Flatter Yourself.
Seal it in an envelope and save it for the rainy days.

9. Find Your Jam

This Should be the song that makes you go like “Bitch, I’m Fabulous.”
A song that you can sing, you can dance on and totally lifts your mood no matter what. Try not go for those Situation songs. I would say “Fancy” by Iggy Azalea is a great choice.

10. Kiss Yourself in The Mirror

Lets call it SDA – Self Display Of Affection. You are not self obsessed, you just deserve all that love. So, do it atleast 5 times… cause sometimes Self-Love Is All You Need.

 So, Basically –

Be the Star of your movie. To Love another we must love ourselves first.

Have A Happy February ya all !!

Love,
J

THE SUITCASE : HOME SWEET HOME

Ain't No Place Like Home

Ain’t No Place Like Home

Dear Readers,
This my very first Post for this Section: “The Suitcase”. I wanted to begin with a place we all can relate to, a place which will always be in our hearts, a place from where every journey begins. So, for the first Journey, I chose to write about MY HOME.
I don’t know if you guys watch “The Originals”(TV series), the show is based on a family of original vampires. It has greatly influenced me to believe in Power of Family; And also having a place to call home. Family is Family, after all.
“Home is where the heart is.” Someone truly said that. It doesn’t matter what kind of house it is or where it is or how crazy your family is, what really matters is its the one that holds a special place in your heart. Home is the place where I learnt to love.

HOME SWEET HOME

Destination: Home
Time: APRIL 2015
Means Of Transport: Bus, Flight and Train
Duration : A week

INTRODUCTION
I’m studying in a college faraway from where my family lives. Last time I visited was last December. My Sessions results came out and I passed, so somehow convinced my parents to book me flights to come home and back.

WHY ?
I Miss Home
I need a break from college life
I miss home food
Sick of counting my finances
Sick of saving money
Sick of waking up every morning

WHAT ?
To Pack : Take whatever you feel like. I mean only take things which are important. No need of night suits, I have plenty of old clothes to wear at home. No need of that huge bottle of perfume, you will have to take bath everyday. No need of towels, your mom has that covered. Gifts for the missed birthdays and Anniversaries.
A little bar of chocolate and earphones for the journey. Don’t forget your portable charger.
To Do : Eat, Sleep, click loads of pictures, Re-energize your senses, spend some quality time with family, watch a lot of television and basically FEEL AT HOME.

WHERE ?
To Go : Wherever you want to go. No need to go anywhere, if you want to sleep.

HOW ?
The Journey: I hopped on a 3 hour bus to the next city, then I switched to an airport bus, which consumed another hour. My Flight journey was another 2 hours 40 mins, plus an hour for the check-in. From the airport, I took a taxi that took about an hour to reach the railway station. The train takes about 5 hours to reach my home place.
I Used the same on the journey back.

THE EXPERIENCE:
Visiting home after a long break, was totally worth it. The warmth of home can never be compared to anything. Adding a video to all those audio updates, that I kept getting over the phone. Like our little kitchen garden, tiny baby tomatoes and chillies ; And also purple brinjal flowers and baby sized sunflowers. I saw my mom’s little refreshment center for the birdies on our terrace, its pretty amazing. Trying to cook recipes from Google, turned out to be a learning experience. Also, I found this miniature pressure cooker in a conventional store. Check out the Pictures.
